Human-Assisted Semi-Automatic Resolver of Clash in BIM
Overview
HUBAROC (Human-Assisted Semi-Automatic Resolver of Clash in BIM) is a guided, human-assisted workflow to prepare the model, detect clashes and resolve them directly inside Revit.
This guide takes you through clash resolution step by step: from model setup to validated results.
across 6 phases
two ways to resolve
no Navisworks round-trips
Things to keep in mind before you start:
- One MEP service model – Open an individual Duct, Pipe or Cable Tray model with the coordination models linked.
- Finish setup first – Complete configuration, clearances, geometry simulation, MHAT and grouping first.
- Bring in your clashes – Import a Navisworks / CSV clash list, or detect clashes directly with KlashBIM.
- Move or Bend – Resolve clashes one at a time, or across a whole grouped system.
- Lock what must stay – Use Logical Pinning to stop selected services from moving.
- Check what changed – Review newly created clashes and fix connections with Error Logs and Auto Connect.

Step 01 – Set Up Revit Before HUBAROC
Phase 01 · Prepare Revit
- Open your MEP service model – Open the individual Revit file you want to resolve: Duct, Pipe or Cable Tray.
- Link coordination models – Link the Structure, Architecture and other MEP models into this file, and confirm they align before you continue.
Step 02 – Configure Visibility Settings
Phase 01 · Prepare Revit
- Select the 11 MEP categories – In the Visibility/Graphic Overrides window, tick the 11 MEP categories used for clash resolution.
Shortcut: VV - Add Structure & Architecture – Optional. To include them in clash resolution, also tick: Structural Framing, Structural Columns, Structural Beam Systems and Columns.
Step 03 – Use a Section Box
Phase 01 · Prepare Revit
- Apply a section box – Tick Section Box in the 3D view’s Properties, then drag its edges around the area you want to resolve.
- Isolate the clash area – Working on one area at a time helps isolate clashes before you run HUBAROC.
Step 04 – Log In to HUBAROC
Phase 02 · Configure
- Launch HUBAROC – Open the HUBAROC software. The welcome window appears.
- Log in – Click Login and sign in with your HUBAROC credentials.
Step 05 – Create Your Project Config
Phase 02 · Configure
- Open Project Configuration – On the Hubaroc tab, click Create/Update Project Config.
Recommended route - Go through the 5 steps – Config File, Clearance, Geometry Simulation, MHAT and Grouping: the same screens as in Run HUBAROC.
- Finish to save it – On the Grouping step, click Finish. The config is saved as a JSON file that works in both HUBAROC and BAMROC.
Step 06 – Run HUBAROC & Review Guidelines
Phase 02 · Configure
- Run HUBAROC – Click Run HUBAROC and read the guidelines. They cover: Linked models, Reference ceiling, MEP boundaries, Connectivity and 0 mm clashes.
- Confirm and continue – Check your project meets every requirement, tick the confirmation box and click Continue to Configuration.
Step 07 – Load Project Configuration
Phase 02 · Configure
- Upload your project config – Upload the JSON config you created in step 05, or click Create New Configuration to set one up here.
Then confirm each step that follows - Choose categories – Select or skip categories, such as Water Pipes and Sprinkler Pipes, based on whether they belong in the resolution.
Step 08 – Set Maintenance Clearances
Phase 02 · Configure
- Enter the maintenance gaps – Enter the clearance you need for ducts, pipes, cable trays and mechanical equipment.
All values in mm - HUBAROC keeps the gap – When it resolves a clash, HUBAROC keeps this gap between the elements that were clashing.
Step 09 – Set Maximum Bend Angles
Phase 02 · Configure
- Enter the bend limits – Enter the maximum bend angle, in degrees, that HUBAROC may use for ducts, pipes and cable trays.
- HUBAROC stays within them – When HUBAROC bends an element to clear a clash, it never uses an angle steeper than the limit you set.
Step 10 – Set Maximum Movement
Phase 02 · Configure
- Limit how far services move – Enter the maximum distance, in mm, that HUBAROC may move a duct, pipe or cable tray.
- Keep systems in their zone – HUBAROC never pushes a system further than this, so no service is moved out of its allotted zone.
- Save your settings – Optionally tick Move air terminals with connected ducts, then click Save Settings and Continue to Simulation.
Step 11 – Simulate Project Geometry
Phase 02 · Configure
- Choose the project alignment – Select Yes if the model follows a clear North–South alignment. Select No if it has special geometry or no standard alignment.
Use a 3D view with Section Box on - Start the simulation – Click Start Geometry Simulation. HUBAROC uses your alignment choice to simulate the project geometry before resolving clashes.
Step 12 – Check Connectivity with MHAT
Phase 03 · Connectivity
- Set the detection distance – Enter the proximity range, in mm, that MHAT uses to check relationships between nearby MEP elements.
- Run the analysis – Click Run Analysis to find disconnected elements that could affect clash resolution and need fixing.
Step 13 – Review MHAT Disconnections
Phase 03 · Connectivity
- Inspect each disconnection – Use Focus On Error or Open 2D View to review each detected disconnection and the element pair involved.
- Choose how to connect – Use Auto Connect to physically reconnect the elements, or Accept the pair as a logical connection for HUBAROC’s resolution.
- Save and close – Work through the list with Next, then click Save Changes and Close.
Step 14 – Group Related MEP Systems
Phase 03 · Connectivity
- Create or use groups – Use the existing groups, or click Add Group to collect the elements that belong to one connected MEP system.
- Resolve systems together – HUBAROC treats every element in a group together, so a resolution is applied consistently across the whole system.
- Move on – In Run HUBAROC, click Next. In Project Configuration, click Finish to save your config.
Step 15 – Choose How to Add Clashes
Phase 04 · Load Clashes
Pick one option:
- Upload an existing clash list – Click Use Navisworks Report to import a clash report made outside HUBAROC, or drag and drop a CSV file into this area.
- Detect clashes with KlashBIM – Click Use KlashBIM Report to create clash tests and detect clashes directly in HUBAROC. The next two steps show how.
Step 16 – Set Up KlashBIM Clash Tests
Phase 04 · Load Clashes
- Add a clash test – Click Add Test. The test appears in the table with its clash counts.
- Select the files to check – In Clash Settings, choose the model files on each side that should be checked against each other.
- Set categories and tolerance – Select the relevant categories for each set and enter the tolerance for clash detection.
Step 17 – Review KlashBIM Clash Results
Phase 04 · Load Clashes
- Open the Results tab – Switch from Clash Settings to Results to see the clashes the test detected.
- Check each clash – Review the status, severity and the two elements involved, and use Navigate to inspect each clash in the Revit model.
- Use these clashes – Once you’re satisfied, click Use these clashes to load the validated list into HUBAROC for resolution.
How HUBAROC Resolves: Move or Bend
Both work on one clash or a whole selection, and both keep the maintenance gaps you set.
- Move – Relocates the clashing element or run clear of the obstruction, up to the Max Movement you set (Step 10). Best for runs with free space around them.
- Bend – Adds bends and offsets around the obstruction, within the Max Bend Angles you set (Step 09). Best for runs that must keep their route and ends.
One Selection, Two Results
In the Bending vs Movement video, the same 32 clashes on a grouped pipe bundle are resolved twice.
Step 18 – Resolve Clashes in HUBAROC
Phase 05 · Resolve
- Select a clash – In the Clash Resolution HUD, pick a clash from the Active ClashList, or click Navigate to jump to it in the Revit model.
- Choose Move or Bend – Pick the resolution strategy in the selector at the bottom of the HUD.
- Click Resolve – Resolve clashes one at a time, or as grouped system elements.
Step 19 – Filter Clashes by System or Element
Phase 05 · Resolve
- Highlight System – Click Highlight System to show only the clashes in the selected MEP system.
- Filter Selection – Select an element in the model, then click Filter Selection to show only the clashes connected to it.
Clear Filter shows the full list again
Step 20 – Validate Resolved Clash Results
Phase 06 · Validate & Fix
- Check each clash’s status – After resolution, the Status column shows where every clash stands: Unresolved, Approved, Resolved, New Clash, Deleted and Manual.
- Update a status – Click a clash’s status to change it from the drop-down list.
- Navigate and verify – Click Navigate to revisit each clash and confirm the fix was applied correctly.
Step 21 – Review New Clashes During Resolution
Phase 06 · Validate & Fix
- Open Clash Detection – This tab lists any new clashes created while you resolve the main clash list.
Refresh Clashes updates the list - Add or reject each one – Click Add to put a valid new clash into the main list for Move or Bend, or Reject to dismiss it.
Step 22 – Control Resolution with Logical Pinning
Phase 06 · Validate & Fix
- Pin services that must stay – In the Logical Pinning tab, use Pin from Base File or Pin from Linked File to pin services you don’t want moved.
- Check what is pinned – Pinned elements are listed below. Highlight Pinned Elements shows them in the model; click x to unpin one.
- HUBAROC works around them – Pinned services stay put. HUBAROC resolves clashes using other elements or approaches instead.
Step 23 – Fix Post-Resolution Connection Errors
Phase 06 · Validate & Fix
- Open Error Logs – HUBAROC logs any disconnections or improper connections created while bending or moving elements. Click Refresh to update the list.
- Inspect each error – Use Focus on error or Open 2D view to see the affected elements.
- Reconnect and mark – Click Auto connect to make minor adjustments and reconnect the elements, then Mark resolved or Mark unresolved.
The Result: Clash Resolution Inside Revit
The same model before and after HUBAROC: the circled clashes are cleared without leaving Revit.
- Resolve directly in Revit – View, navigate and apply resolutions inside Revit, without switching back to Navisworks.
- Navisworks only for the clash file – Once the clash file is loaded, every resolution step happens in Revit. Navisworks isn’t needed to resolve.

FAQ
- Which Revit file should I open?
One individual MEP service model (Duct, Pipe or Cable Tray), with the Structure, Architecture and other MEP models linked into it and aligned. Step 01 - Do I need Navisworks?
Only for the clash file, if you choose to import a Navisworks report. You can also drag in a CSV, or detect clashes directly in HUBAROC with KlashBIM. Every resolution step happens in Revit. Step 15 - Can I reuse my configuration?
Yes. Create/Update Project Config saves a JSON file that you can upload in Run HUBAROC, and the same file works in both HUBAROC and BAMROC. Step 05 - Should I use Move or Bend?
Move suits runs with free space around them; Bend suits runs that must keep their route and ends. Try both on the same selection and keep the result that suits the coordination intent. Move or Bend - Will HUBAROC respect my clearances?
Yes. It keeps the maintenance gaps you set, never bends steeper than your maximum bend angles, and never moves a service further than your maximum movement. Step 08 - How do I stop a service from moving?
Pin it in the Logical Pinning tab, from the base file or a linked file. HUBAROC then resolves the clash using other elements or approaches. Step 22 - What if resolving creates new clashes or broken connections?
New clashes appear in the Clash Detection tab, where you Add or Reject each one. Broken or improper connections appear in Error Logs, where Auto connect reconnects them. Step 21
